An interesting history binds Pastýřská stěna to the Napoleonic Wars. After the defeat at Dresden, the Allied Russian, Prussian and Austrian troops were forced to retreat to Bohemia and only on August 30, 1813, at the Battle of Chlumec in Ústí nad Labem, they defeated the first French army and captured General Vandamm. Shortly after the battle, the commander of the Terezín fortress came to the field armor Chasteler with the idea of building a strong border fort. Ralčeský Gibraltar was to be built on Pastýřská stěna and its neighboring canine. The idea was definitely built by the estate administrator of the Count Thun Economic Council, Wolfgang Kropf, who eventually convinced the general of the unsuitability of such a building. Then Chasteler ordered only to build a sloping defensive line at Red Hill and the bridgehead at the Elbe. Even so, the damage to unnecessarily felled trees was over 900 gold. In addition, the "allied" Cossack troops caused considerable damage by plundering the surrounding villages.

Another attraction of the Pastýřská stěna  was the forest theater established in 1919 in a simple today's ZOO by Gustav Franz Pilz, the director and owner of the Podmokel Varieté (today's Municipal Theater). His theatrical company has set up two log buildings serving permanent scenes and an auditorium of wooden benches in front of them. The entrance to the complex was made up of a large wooden gate with cash registers. However, the attendance of the theater was not very high and the owner closed it in 1925.

In the middle of the forest on Pastýřská stěna in the place of the canceled forest theater was  the building of the student hostel (Jugendherberge) no. 1286, which provided cheap and simple accommodation for student clubs during the holidays. After the establishment of the zoo, the hostel was integrated into its complex as an administrative building.
