Field maple (Acer campestre)

Occurrence in Děčín The oldest specimens are found in the chateau parks in Mariánské louka and U Tyrše as well as in the forest park Bažantnice and in the park in the Jeronýmova street (the main trees reach the trunk ø 80 cm). Younger people can be found in the park on Loubská Street. The marked individual is definitely not one of the biggest representatives of his kind, but he is interested in something else. Many years ago, the original tree was felled or fell off, and in its place grew a so-called four-stemmed polycorn. Near the earth it measures almost 0.8 m in diameter, which corresponds to the original tree. In any case, it is one of the most interesting native maple species that contributed to the dendroflora of the local landscape.
Application Due to its adaptability, the possible uses are very broad: street lanes, as a pioneer tree for drylands or solitaire in city and castle parks. It can be cut well and can therefore be used for shaped hedges and walls.
Habitat At low altitudes very adaptable, in alluvial and mixed forests along streams and rivers, on forest steppes, warm slopes, even in arid karst areas.
Location Europe, North Africa, Asia Minor, Caucasus, Northern Iran.
Fruits Flattened achenes, wings spread horizontally and 2.5 - 3 cm long.
Blossom Greenish-yellow, upright, pubescent with 10-20 flowers, flowers in May during germination.
Leaves Alternate, 3 to 5 lobed, rounded, cut to 1/3 - ½, 5 to 10 cm wide, 3 largest lobes widened towards base, obtuse at tip, middle lobes often with two sidelobes, above dull green, underside greyish green and finely hairy, in the armpits of nerves with hair tufts, petiole is as long as the leaf blade, after injury latex latex, fall color is yellow. 
Branches Young olive-green to reddish-brown, slightly hairy, bare, older branches often with elongated cork-like stripes.
Rind It initially soft, cork-like, later furrowed into coarse plates. 
Treetop 10-15 m tall tree with a wide elliptical, often irregular or even wide branched crown. 
Note Among the largest specimens of the type is the spasm in the former Riegerovy sady in Usti nad Orl. (Volume: 409cm). According to monumental.trees, the largest species tree in the world is a specimen in the park near Abdij Val Dieu (Liège) in Belgium. The trunk circumference is 600 cm (which corresponds to a diameter of almost 2 m) and is 12 m high.
